cam to big?

ok my question is this. Is the cam I got with my kit to big for the stock engine?

its a 292 duration 488 lift(at valve)
I used the intake and carb(with a 1 inch spacer)
I got the torquer 2 setup.
The car has full length long tube headders the torquer 2 intake a 1407(750) carb and that cam along with the valve springs. the kit recomends 9.5 to 1 engine, but everything else works great and I really want a cam to pull upstairs and have that idle.

any help would be great. thanks
mike

Everything about the setup you have stated is pretty much too big for a stock 305. That carb is definately too big for any 305. The rest of the stuff will work on a 305 but if the heads are still stock, they will not perform like you want them too. Those heads will be choking your engine big time......... and the small bore of the 305 will be shrouding the intake valve pretty bad as well even if you get better heads.....

Time for a 350 (or bigger). You have all the rest, just get the cubes!!!!

That setup is way too big for a 305. Even a 350 with the proper compression ratio would need a 3000 stall for that cam. A 383 will pull it off with 2600 stall or there-abouts.

Even if you had 11:1 CR on that 305, it's too big.
