Can't get car to start
Hey fellas, I can't seem to get my car to start. Here's what happened. I recently went on vacation. The car was running decent before this. When I get back from vacation the car won't start. First thing I did when it wouldn't start was pull the plugs. They all smelled like gas like the engine was flooded. I then checked for spark. There was barely any spark, it was really weak (now I am not sure how much spark plugs are supposed to spark but the spark seemed really weak). So I replaced cap and rotor, wires, and coil with Accell and MSD stuff. This also did not get the car going. I then changed the plugs because they are cheap and I wanted to rule that out. But still the car doesn't want to start. I am not sure what else it could be is there anything else I should be checking??
Also the car is an 87 IROC with at 5.7L TPI engine.
Thanks

I just put a brand new battery in it last night and it is turning over fine. I was just talking with someone and they suggested to replace a module which is located under the distributer cap. What is this module and what does it do??
Hey the ignition module got me to, was driving and it just died. Not sure what it does but i replaced it in like 5 mins and every thing was fine started right up. That would be my next move.
Just found this
Function: The ignition module fires the spark plugs with signals from the ECU. Older modules were restricted to just this task but many modern modules perform a variety of tasks, including timing, dwell and current control

Thanks, I was just reading about them myself and it seems like the next logical step. What brand would you suggest??
I just got the stock one from gm. My aftermarket igination system i think bypasses that module? Been sitting on the shelf wiating to be put in, I heard mixed things about after market ones, getting to hot burning out? Just remember to put a go coatting of silcone grease under it to help heat transfer.
best way to tell if your spark is strong enough is with a spark tester. if it makes spark with the tester you have another problem, if not i'd look at the moduel. since you mentioned wet plugs after the spark test i'd look at the FPR or a leaking injector.

OK. I took the dist cap off and found that the wires going to the ignition module were off and the connector was broken. I don't know which way to put them back on. There is a yellow and a green wire and on the module iteself is the letters P and N next to each connector. Does anyone know which wire goes where??
