ive got a local guy that is wanting to sell a set of heads. he says that theyre L98 heads but i cant find the casting number in my book. the casting is 14102193. the build date is F097 which i believe is june 7,1987. can anyone help.

mortec and mad mike's both have those as 87- 350 heads w/ 1.94/1.50. Nothing else on 'em.

The casting number for iron L98 heads is 14101083, so those arent it.

Those are 350 TBI truck heads, not L98's.

I have those same heads. Although mine are #191s. They are 76cc chambers, 1.94"int/1.5"ex. They are also the "light" castings. This means that they aren't very strong under high comp because they have 'mounting tabs' (for lack of a better word) on the perimeter. The head bolts are held on by VERY SMALL, THIN metal tabs.
Any comp ratio that is higher than 9:1, which mainly results in higher heat on the casting, will heat those tabs so they can crack easier.
Then there's the internal pressure forcing the heads "up".
I would pass on those. I was debating on using the ones I have on my 355 build up to save a little dough. But after all is said and done (they need a rebuild) it would be better for me to buy aftermarket heads.
