Need advice on replacing enginemounts

The enginemounts on my car are bad. I've bought a new pair. Can anyone give me advice on how difficult this is to do and how to go about it?

the thing that troubles me right now is how to lift the engine so I can get the mounts off???
Doesn't seem to be any good solid place for this underneath the car.... can it only be lifted from the top side?

I have atool that mounts to the strut towers, radiator suppot that lifts the engine up. I guess you could jack the car up, pull the two motor mount bolts and jack the motor up a little.

I've never done a SBC with the engine in the car.It sucks enough with the engine OUT of the car. The bottom two bolts are fine, its the top two that suck ***.

Next time I do it, I might weld the nut to the K-member while the mounts are in.

I've tried jacking the car up before and found it to be quite alot of work if u wanna fit under there. I've instead made a ramp and the car is on it. I think the working space underneath is more than adequate now.
The problem with jacking up the engine is that there seems to be no good solid place for this..... can't lift it where the oilpan is coz it's just too weak to support the weight, as is the clutch. The transmission is way in the back..... how much wheight can the crankshaft take? ....or where else can I lift it?

Well I'd use an engine hoist or a chainfall, but You'll only get a few inches max out of it before the tranny hits the body..

Don't have either of those things and don't deal that much with engines so think it would be a waste of money to buy.

Check the local general rental place. They may have one you can just rent.

Stick a 2x4 between the pan and the jack. You'd be surprised how much weight the pan can support.

I think you might be right. If i put some padding in between It would probably withstand quite a bit. But I've also found that I can lift it on the edge where the pan is attached to the block.... except now there is another challange...... just noticed there are nuts inside the frame from the bolts of the mounts!!! Thought it was just bolts with the threads IN the frame. It seems the only wat to get to the nuts is to remove the lower controlarm..... but I get the feeling I would be getting myself way in over my head then. And then I would need a sprincompresser...... hahahaaa! This keeps getting better and better

Okay to be able to remove the mounts I'm now on mmy way to remove the whole controlarm (D). Don't know the english terms of these parts so I just lettered them so I can explain.

I'm taking the A-nut off in order to remove B that is in the way of the front C-nut. I need to get the C-nuts off so I can remove D which is in the way of the nuts that hold the the mount (E) in place...... Hope this is clear enough..... Feel like I'm playing Tetris here, haha!!
It's B that is stuck... or is it? Can't get it apart from the "steeringshaft". Does anyone know how it comes off??
Please ask if something is unclear.
