what should vacuum be at idle

what should vacuum be at idle

I think i have a vacuum leak and need to hook up a gauge to find out. the leak must be big enough to cause my idle to go up and down and i cant set timing on new motor until i get it to idle right. where can i hook up the gauge to

there is no set number your engine will run at, connect the gauge to any port in the intake.

For what it's worth, I run about 13"-14" at 900 rpms...
