highway cruiser SBC
so i want to make my car more of a highway cruiser, but i don't know how to look into making a higher RPM motor with decent power. what bottom end should i start with? just a basic 4bolt 350? maybe destroke a motor so it revs higher/faster (like a 400 block with a 350 crank, or a 350 block with some smaller crank)? also, besides cam and intake, what should i look at to make power in the upper RPM range? what do i need to look at when choosing a carb for this type of application? unlike when i built my stupid 305 i acctually want to do the research first, so give me your thoughts. also i would think about doing fuel injection if it really makes that much of a difference.

I don't get it what do you want to do? First your talking about a cruiser and then your talking about high rpm. Make up your mind, those are opposites.

Maybe he wants to go flying down the hiway @ 100mph in 2nd gear??
Yes, what exactly do you plan on doing with it? What RPM range are you at while at "cruising" speed?

i only made this thread last night. alright scratch the idea of a highway "cruiser" what i meant by that i just meant if i down shift while driving on the highway to pass/ keep up with other cars/whatever having the power down low isnt going to do me any good. i want the power from like 3000-6000 or so, right now after about 4,000 RPM or so my car doesnt really pull.

Well depending on the setup pretty much any 350 makes its max power 4500-6000RPM.
Solution, Dont downshift!
What do you have already and what do you plan on spending?

lol, its funny you say that about reminding him to turn.........theres a story there for another day, another thread.. as for a good motor for cruzing without having to shift.... swap in a newer 350 and be done! cheap, farily easy, and good gas milage
, if your instant on building a good cruzing motor, there are some good books out there like Max performance chevy by david vizard, smallblock chevrolet by a pair of larry's, how to build horse power again by david vizard... all of those are by the same publisher... a good but basic set... if your more into tech manuels let me know i have some incredibly dry reading and dry humor, but an absolute for the "at home engine builder"
