u disconnect the wiring leading to your fuel pump, located near the tank (above the differencial), screw out the plugs, screw your compression check tool into the plug hole, and ask an assistant to crank the engine , while you see and write down what is the compression usually after 5-7 turns , and after the first one. then do it to the rest of the cylinders , and compare the numbres to the specifications at the manual

feel free to add, if i left somthing out

88 just about covered it. It helps to have a fully charged battery before testing. It's also a good idea to hold the throttle open fully while cranking for best readings.

And you can disable the fuel pump by removing the relay and the wire at the auxilliary pressure switch near the distributor instead of disconnecting at the tank, but either way works the same.

I don't see the "disconnect the fuel pump thing". First, this car may have a carb and a mechanical pump.

Don't worry about the fuel pump.

Disable your ignition, especially if it is electronic!

Remove all the spark plugs and install the compression tester. Crank on the engine for 5-7 "compression strokes". This is noticed by the sound of the engine. You'll hear the engine slow up as it is compressing the air. Write down the compression measurement. Repeat for the rest of the cylinders.

Next squirt some motor oil into all of the cylinders and repeat the compression test. If the values are higher that the pervious test, this indicates that the rings are worn.

Values will vary from altitude, barometric pressure, and camshafts, but the cylinder to cylinder value should not vary more that 10 psi.
