Calculating Compression ratio?

How do I roughly calculate compression ratio?

I am doing some half-hearted research into a couple (4 actually) different engine combos.

What formula can I use to roughly come up with my a compression ratio.

Let's suppose for a moment that I use the same standard size head gasket on all applications, and that I can choose between flat top or domed pistons.
