hope this helps
I just finished a head swap....and actually learned a few things in the process. My '89 has a 3/8-16 stud in the back of the pass. side cylinder head with a hex in the middle...GM seems to like these things. If yours is the same as mine, the hex is a 9/16 inch, and the nut on top of it is also 9/16. On mine, that stud is used hold the firewall ground and a thick tab that anchors the AIR system pipe. It's a bear to reach but if you get a short 9/16 wrench (open end on one side, box end on the other with 12 point opening) your best bet will be to get it from below. The twelve point closed end will allow you to rotate the nut slowly, without needing 60 degrees of "sweep" to move it. Without that, it will be even worse. I hope this helps. Good luck.
