im hearing a squeel from the back of the car. not breaks
its coming from the back of my car but its not from needing new breaks cause it goes away when i apply a little pressure on the breaks. any help is appreciated
Guess what?
Its the brakes. I'm guessing that you have rear disk brakes and your parking brake doesnt work. If the parking brake cable is broken the rear calipers have no way to adjust themselves so as the rear pads wear, they will become loose in the caliper (and make noise). By pressing the brake you get them to seat properly and the squeak goes away.
If your parking brake does work, use it!!! If it doesn't, fix it (or have it fixed). I could be wrong but Im pretty sure that is what is happening but I could be wrong.
peace

It's something to do with the brakes. Just pop the drums off and look, no sense arguing about it over the Net, it probably will be obvious.

DF,
I'm guessing that you have semi-metallic or ceramic/carbon fiber linings on your rear shoes. These are particularly prone to noise when "coasting" which disappears when the brake pressure is applied.
The phenomenon really doesn't indicate any problems or unusual wear or damage, but certainly can be annoying. One possible cure, if only temporary, is to remove the drums and scuff the wear surfaces inside with a rough sand paper to remove any polishing. I say temporary, since before you know it the drums will have a polish again and could begin the "whining" all over.
