my car changed its own oil !!! time for an Oil pump

well the filter blew up like a balloon and all the oil spewed out, the pressure releif valve is stuck shut, and basically to make a short story shorter, now i gotta change the oil pump, well heres what i wanna know...

1. What things do i have to disconnect and/or remove to change the pump?

2. Is there anything else related, that i should consider changing while im at it?

3. And also if anyone has any tips or tricks to make this job any easier it will be greatly appreciated

Sorry to hear about your problem. Well my reply may be a little lengthy but here we go. You will first have to do several things just like you're going to pull the motor. Remove the distributor, unhook your exhaust @ the manifold/header(you may want to unhook it at the cat as well so you can get the y-pipe out of your way, tranny crossmember, maybe your shifter not to mention all the wires and lines running around. Don't forget to label all the wires and lines/hoses you disconnect. It seems like a pain in the *** but it can be a life saver in the end. You are going to have to unhook the motor mounts and hood to suspend the engine high enough in the air to get the oil pan down so you can clear the crank and the oil pump. Once you get the pan off and the old oil pump out you're ready to put the new one in. I would replace the oil pump driveshaft if it looks bad at all. Obviously you'll have to replace the front and rear main seals and the pan gasket, also now is not a bad time for a new pan if you need it. Before you permanently install the new pump/pickup you should put the new pickup on the new pump and test fit it. You want it to just barely touch the bottom of the oil pan when it's installed. Once you get this done take the new pump with the properly installed pickup to someone that can just tack a small weld on it. The weld will hold the oil pickup in postition and also for some ungodly reason from coming out. If you have any more questions email me or put up a reply. Hope this helps.

i'd take the engine out long before i tried to do it in the car. use a 1 piece pan gasket and use a melling m55 pump with a mr. gasket #26 spring and weld a brace from the pick up to bolt to the pump body.
