Accelerator stopped working momentarily
I'm not sure where to post this and a title search of "accelerator" returned surprisingly few threads.
I was cruising to school (15miles) early this morning catching all the green lights. About 1 mile from school my accelerator stopped working. I shifted to neutral and back with no improvement. Still off the gas, I turned on my hazard lights and braked into a parking lot. After about 5 seconds off my accelerator, it began working again.
Now, I can hear a new sound when I am on the gas. It is quiet-medium in loudness and high pitched (almost too high to hear).
Could this be a vacuum problem? I'm not too familiar with this system. I pretty much just know that there's a cable that moves when I hit the gas.
Any insight would be appreciated. It's scary driving down the road and having your accelerator stop working (at least it wasn't sticking).

Im not too sure as to how it would just stop working and be good again in a few minutes...
Possibly your ECM cut power for some reason or another, thats got me stumped
The high pitched noise does sound like a vacume leak, maybe a line split and your engine went very lean, giving you no power and feeling like you had no accelerator. Then the ECM corrected for the lean and you were on your way.
