Car won't hold idle, RPMs drop....

Guys-

I need a little help here...

Last night I washed my car, really briefly (didn't open the hood or touch the engine), and when I went to move it...it started, but the RPMs surged to about 2000, then dropped to 500 (in park)...

I drove around and bit, and each time I slowed down for a stop light, the RPMs would drop to 500...which is really low ain't it?

I could barely hear my engine and the flowmasters it was so low...I knew something was wrong...then this morning, I go to start it, and it fires up, but then dies immeadiately, unless I give it gas...but as soon as I let off the gas...it drops RPMs and dies..

I JUST had a brand new EGR installed by the dealer, so I don't see how I could have a vaccum leak.....I was meaning to get an oil and liquids change today (I put 3,500 miles on it without a change), could that be the problem? Maybe the fuel pump died?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks

I don't think 500 rpms is too low some like it around 550 for idle in D. Now in park you'll want it a little higher. I'm not sure on TPI engines but carbs have a screw to adjust your idle.

Only going 3500 miles won't cause your car to have problems running. I would definately look for vacuum leaks, and make sure no water got in the distributor.

In Drive or Overdrive, it normally holds steady at 600-700 RPMs, and in Park, it normally holds at 900-1000 RPMs...

I know 500 in Park is low, and it got real stumbly, I'd give it gas, and let off...and it would just fall and die...

Like I said though, it's not like I was messin with the engine AT ALL...it ran PERFECT all day yesterday...

You could be right with regards to water getting somewhere it shouldn't have, because I just went outside and it fired up and held steady RPMs (this is with the engine warmed up).....I drove it around and everything checked out, it ran fine, so I'm pretty sure it's not a vaccum leak, is there anywhere else water could have gotten that would cause this? Thanks man

Nobody else has any ideas?

I drove to work today, and it was perfectly fine, but I would like to know what the problem was this morning, to insure it doesn't happen again...

Thanks

I had a similar problem with it starting, surging idle and then dying. I clean the IAC and its passages and lube the worm gear and that fixed it.
