timing a non cc car

I need to adjust the timing on my 85 non cc camaro. It was done a bit ago by my friend and i am attempting to do it solo this time as hes unavailable.

I am unsure if it is different when adjusting the timing on a non cc? Is there a wire i need to disconect so the timing doesnt advance, or coz its vacuum advance there is no wires?

Basically im asking the proper procedure for doing the timing. I have the Chilton manual but its not helping any. The car came stock with no ecm here in canada.

Just disconnect the vacuum line.

Instead of the wire, you disconnect and plug the vaccum line going to the dizzy. The rest should be the same.

yep. siconnect the vacuum line on the vac advance canister, plug it, and have at it.

I'm curious - why do we disconnect the vacuum line? Isn't this vacuum line connected to a port that produces no vacuum at idle? I always disconnected it as well, but really didn't make any sense to me as there is never any vacuum on it at idle.

Unless,...
1) you one of the folks that has it connected to the other vacuum port on the carb, then it does have vacuum at idle, and I know some folks get a better response when connected to the port with vacuum at idle.
2) you are adjusting timing at "other than idle" - such as setting timing based on total advance at various rpm's or WOT

Anyway, like I said - just curious.

Probably mostly from habit. If there's no vacuum on it at idle, like with the factory setup, you can leave it connected.
