Camaro 350 Tpi Experts Please Help
Help needed PLEASE!!
I have just brought a 5.7 tpi camaro 1989 have had a big problem she drives like a dream for about 10/20 mile then when i pull up I loose idle try to rev can't get rev's turn her off leave for 5 min's restart and she'll be find for a couple of miles then plays up again.
If I leave her overnight she again will run for about 10/20 miles then do the same I.m at a loss.
Sounds like she is struggling for fuel as when I pump accelarater as she's trying to die she may pick up for a few seconds.
Have change fuel filter new rota and cap new plugs ht leads new coil no codes come up has anybody had the same problem?
compression test ok, c o test fine.
We are thinking may be the fuel pump breaking down although so many things it could be!
Anybody had similar problems may help use

Pumping the accelerator doesn't pump in fuel like it does with a carb.
You need to invest in a fuel pressure gage. Verify the fuel pressure when these symptoms show up. Most likely your fuel pump is getting weak. But, until you know what the fuel pressure is when this happens, you won't know for sure.
Could also be an electronic component getting hot.
For the record, is the SES light coming on when this happens?

ONE THING TO CHECK AFTER YOU CHECK YOUR FUEL PRESSURE IS THE FURL PUMP RELAY UNDER THE HOOD COMPARTMENT. I DON'T SEE A LOT OF POST MENTION THIS, BUT LOOK AT YOUR RELAY AND THE TERMINAL THAT PLUGS INTO IT. OVER TIME THE PLASTIC STARTS TO GET MUSHY FROM THE HEAT AND ONCE YOU DRIVE YOUR CAR FOR A WHILE IT WILL ACTUALLY START TO MELT MORE AND KILL THE CONTACT OVER THE RELAY AND KILL POWER TO YOUR FUEL PUMP. I HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME A FEW DAYS AGO. THE CAR WOULD RUN FINE FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS AND THEN IT WOULD ACT LIKE IT WAS VAPOR LOCKING. LET IT SIT FOR A HOUR AND THEN IT RAN FINE AGAIN. UPON INSPECTION OF THE RELAY, I FOUND THAT THE PLUG WAS LEAVING BLACK SPOTS ON THE RELAY AND CUTTING POWER. JUST A QUICK CHECK WON'T HURT AND MIGHT SAVE YOU THE TROUBLE OF PULLING THE TANK.
