Odd ticking inside the car

I don't think its an exhaust leak. I have listened to the engine bay and all i can hear are the injectors. The noise seems to be coming from the center of the car in the dash somewhere. Could it be possible that the climate controls have a slight leak? The controls work fine except i think that the AC compressor comes on when i turn the defrost on... unless thats normal. Anyone have some ideas?

I would also like to pose this question. My father purchased an 88 supercharged mr2 with 60k on it from my uncle, and I noticed that when the a/c is on I can sometimes hear a ticking noise. Just a few ticks at a time, not all the time. I noticed it more when we were braking(I may have been imagining this).

When my AC is on, you can here a grinding noise. I assume that the bearings are shot in the compressor. You might have a similar situation with just a few of the races having a flat section. The increased noise while braking is interesting though.

the ticking might be your compressor, possibly maybe even an arcing spark...or...this, which is a real long shot (depending on how loud this ticking is) your coil!?! have you replaced it at all with an aftermarket?, because i know i can hear my accel coil ticking through the firewall, because thats where it is screwed in. i usually just turn the music up. just a thought...good luck.

I don't think its an arcing spark plug/wire. I don't have an aftermarket ingnition. I can't hear it in the engine bay, only in the car.

I had a ticking that sounded like it was coming from the dash board. I thought that my speakers had **** the bed so I replaced them. As it turned out it was the tripmeter in the speedo got jammed and kept trying to tick over but couldn't...

Its a long shot, but you never know...

Nope, not the trip.. that works fine. Its engine related. It does it when the car is in park. Its just SO annoying!!!!

does it only happen when your heat, ac, or vent is on? if so, it could be some debris caught in the vents or in the blower... but if its when its only in park, I don't know...
could be lifter noise maybe?

It happens when the blower is on and off. I don't think its the lifters. There is no unusual noise in the engine bay.
