Help!! Cant identify this noise
I heard this noise the other day on the highway....its like a whine/ with mild grind almost like something is rubbing against a rotating part.
It gets noticably louder when I take my foot off the gas. And applying the brakes doesnt change/affect the noise at all.
And it also gets louder when I take a right turn.
Its sounds like its coming from the right rear but I cant be sure.
And it only makes this noise when I'm drving. I can park it and pop the hood and hit the throttle and I hear nothing strange at all.
I thought it was my axle bearings. I've had a leaky axle seal for a while. I replaced bearings and seals yesterday and noticed also that there was only about 1 pint of gear oil in my case and I blew a side gear shim in my diff. So I replaced the shim also and put it all back together just fine.
Everything I did to the rear yesterday did not effect this noise at all. Same quality and same frequency.
This doesnt feel like a brake issue (no other brake problems). I need to put it on blocks and put the car in drive I think to see if anything is rubbing the driveshaft.....I dont know. I'm at a loss.
Anyone have suggestions?

Sounds like wear on the Decel side of the ring and pinion. An axle bearing would make the noise all the time.
