What can I expect L98 heads/cam to do for an LO3?

Subject pretty much sums it up.

I already have an L98 cam in great shape and I am buying L98 heads ASAP. I currently have an open element air filter and a well tuned engine. A new 3" catback should arrive this week. I have an L69 Y pipe and i am getting the L98 exhaust manifolds also. I will port match the head's and my stock intake to the intake manifold gaskets. I am going to deburr/polish the exhaust ports also.

I know this is a somewhat curious hodgepodge of parts. I just want my car to be in the 225HP to 250HP range with over 300 ft lbs of torque.

Will I gain low end torque or lose low end torque.

I am pretty sure it will have more HP but I have no idea how much more.

Should I mill the heads and if so, how much??

If you are positive from your experience that this combo will not get 250HP/300TQ, what could be done for a low cost to get it there?

The L98 heads that you speak of, are they the Corvette aluminum? If so, it would be a good move. They flow better than the 305 heads and they have a 58cc combustion chamber so you won't loose compression.
If it's the cast iron heads from a Camaro or
Firebird, you will loose power due to the larger combustion chamber.

If you are using L98 iron heads your compression will drop a lot unless you mill them down a lot. The aluminum L98 heads are very good out of the box, but they may need modification (EGR, bolt holes). If I were you I'd ditch the exhaust manifold idea and just run some headers. Desktop dyno results show me that this can be one of the best mods on a stock engine, and logs will seriously restrict a built engine. The L98 cam should work nicely. I'm not sure what kind of power you'd be running. You may want to ask the tbi board, they will be able to estimate better than I can.

good luck

I'm assuming that your buying the 'vette L98 heads...

You're gonna have to enlongate the bolt holes on your stock intake to get it to bolt up to the 'vette heads. The other thing that you might have to watch out for is computer tuning...the stock chip might be able to handle it, but I'm not sure. Just be prepared if it doesn't.

The heads i am getting are the cast iron L98's. I can't begin to afford the aluminum ones right now. So the iron L98's are either 60cc or 64cc depending on where i look. Any idea how much milling?? Well,
one good thing is that after a mill i will have a perfect surface for the new head gasket, at least on the head side.

Cast iron are 64cc.

You'll need to remove about .007"/cc, so to drop 6 cc, you'll need to remove .042".

Get the intake machined to match so you don't have oil leaks when you get it back together.
