If the cam you have is the "929" cam with .390/.410" lift, it will work very nicely. A performer intake or maybe a weiand action+ with small tube headers would be a beauti combo for the street.

Is this ## cast on the cam ?? If so Thanks
for the reply, When a small eng is givin
a larger displacement cam like i'm doing
will it react like a high perf cam rough
idle and all?? or will it be smooth and
good running like a stock eng should be?
--just curious .......GTA

That cam is the same exact pitiful thing that was responsible for mid-70s 350s having 165 HP. I have thrown those in the garbage and consider myself poorer to the tune of the garbage bag I ruined. It was also the stock cam in later 283s and 307s and 327s after about 65, and later 350s, especially the 2-barrel and low-perf 4-barrel ones.
It will work; but it will not be a performance-oriented setup by any means. If your 283 situation is a typical truck motor, it will be fine; just don't be expecting to set the world on fire.
If you want a suggestion for a better cam for the application, look at the Comp 12-208-2 265 "Dual Energy" grind. It should idle almost smooth, with a just barely detectable lope; but pull real hard through the midrange. It should give about the same gas mileage as the stock cam.
I agree with 88's intake and header recommendations. This cam should also work acceptably well with manifolds and a stock intake, but the improved induction will wake the motor up alot.

Thanks for the reply, the eng is going together with the "wimpy" goodwrench cam
but i have hope as it is just a runaround
truck, since the bores are punched out +60
does this give a big boost in compression?
hope it gives some, any bit is welcome
i will keep my fingers crossed........GTA

60 over will add very little compression.
