coolant leak below crank pulley

after this one time the car overheated ,when i get out in the morning i have a wierd coolant leak from where the crankshaft pulley is located , i beleive its coming from the water pump, but it never did it before it overheated , and i recentley rebuilt the engine ,so i donno why would it do that . and how can i correct it
and after i start the car the coolant stops leaking for the rest of the day , but when i get out in the morning it leaks again.
my car is an 88 camaro 2.8 mpfi w/t 5 spd manual,(i donno if that helps ,but in anycase)

That does sound like the water pump. It's the only thing I can think of in that area.

Yeah, sounds like the water pump to me too. Sometimes they'll be leak-free around the shaft seal when the engine is warm, and the cooling system pressure helps the shaft seal up nicely. But overnight, when everything cools down, and the pressure bleeds off, it starts leaking. Been there done that.

pump replacement required. Call around to get some prices.
Reminds me of a funny story. A ol' farm boy(nothing against farmers) welded the weep holes shut on a SBC water pump to stop the leaking.

get in the area with a flashlight. It could be coming from a hose, or even from the water pump gasket. if it's the gasket, just replace that and spare the expense of the pump.
