Removing valves

Once I remove the springs, should I keep tabs on what valve goes where? I'm starting to port a set of cast L98's and add new springs and didnt know if i have to keep the same valve with the same hole. Also do the heads have to be decked to clean? I wanna make sure its true before I install. Motor and heads have 100+ Unknown amount on them.

Well its not absolutely essential , but the valves fit their guides, the valve fits the seat etc etc.
Personally i keep everything in its order.
If you were fitting new guides\valves\springs\ and cutting new valve seats, then no, of course not.
But it wouldnt blow the engine up if you did mix em.

It wont blow the engine up, but the valves wont seal either. You need to keep them straight if you're not doing a valve job or cutting the seats. As far as cleaning the deck you should have an engine shop check it out to be sure.

i wouldn't worry about it. never had a problem. but i'd suspect after you're done you'll want to recut the seats and face the valves. i like to have heads resurfaced as well as the block to help insure a good seal, but i've not had any problems not doing it either.
