My dash lights will not work after bad cd player install, HELP!
Goes like this, I was installing a cd player in my 1991 firebird and I got a spark from the wires, then my dash lights would not come on. I checked all the fuse's but they are all ok. Please help, I need to see my dash!
Thanks for the help..

One of the wires going to the stock radio is the wire from the dimmer so the illuminated radio controls can adjust to the rest of the dash lights. Just a guess but maybe one of the power (+) wires touched that dimmer wire and damaged the dimmer control, and thus making the dash lights not work. Just my 2 cents.

My friend was installing a custom stereo, I was with him, in his Durango. He had to keep wiring the different wires together to get it right. Make sure if its hooked up right, that when you shut off the car/stereo it dings (or this case buzzes). You either a. blew fuse, b. attached wrong wires together, or c. never attached the dash lights wire.
not hooking up an illumination wire to a deck will not cause the dash lights not to work. All that wire does is dim the display on the radion when the pk. lights or headlights are turned on. How did you make your connections? did you use a harness or did you cut off the plug?

There is a small part near the radio pod, it looks like a heat sink with a chip on it, I think there are 3 or 4 wires on it. I took that out when I installed my Alpine deck since I thought it was part of the factory radio, removing it made my dash lights not work, this is the dimmer module I believe. Make sure it's connected, if it is, try and install another one but undo what you did with your radio install first and see if your dash lights come back on.
