throttle body coolant valve broken!!!
throttle body coolant valve broken!!!
i got off 5 hours early today thinking i could spend the day making fun. but smoke started coming outta my hood, and i popped it to find that--- i have an open element air cleaner, theres three hoses that come from the firewall to the left of the TB and all hook up to a weird T looking thing with three nubs on it that the hoses hook up to. the whole thing, with the hoses is un-mounted, when it had the stock aircleaner on it, it was smooshed under the housing, it all stops before the accessory bracket. one of them had snapped the nub off and was spewing my preciouse coolant all over the engine. does anyone know what this is? someone told me its a tb coolant valve or something, but that doesnt quite sound right. thanks!!

I'm guessing you have a TBi motor. Sounds like the bypass valve for the heater. Your coolant destined for the heater core flows thru the valve. When you hit your a/c, it pulls a vacuum on that valve and stops hot water from entering the heater core, thus allowing the a/c to cool better.
They are available at any parts store, around $20 I think.

If I'm reading your post correctly, then I'm gonna have to say it's your heater control valve.

Yes!!! After a year and a half it's finally running!! 383 with Super Ram, Bosch 24# SVO's, MSD, Edelbrock 58 mm TB, 700R4 tranny, Eibach springs, Koni 12 way adjustable shocks and struts, and more!! Now I just need $$$$ for paint, wheels, and tires.

it is the heater control valve, mine did the same thing. there is a vacuum line that comes from your heater control in the dash that opens the valve inside when u turn on the heat. I think it was only like 12 bucks at a auto parts store.
