Changed oil, tried to start car, bad noise!

Okay, I changed my oil today. Drained the oil, watched TV for about 30 minutes, then came back, put the plug and the filter back in. Filled it back up with 5w30 valvoline SynBlend and an additive (some blue kind). Tried to start that car back up. BAD NOISE! Ping/knock/not good. shut it back off. Tried it again, engine did the same thing. Dad won't let me start it again until we work on it tomorrow. Any ideas?

First of all, I wouldn't have put that additive in there. Most people will tell you to stay away from additives. I'd make sure you got the right oil filter or check to make sure the gasket off the old one came off. Sorry I don't have any other suggestions.

Often, it's because something was dropped into the oil-filler hole, and is rattling around the rockers. I'd recommend pulling the one valve cover. Better safe than sorry.
If nothing is missing from underneath the hood, like a wingnut or bolt, then maybe that's not it.

How long did you let it run??

Its not uncommon to have a motor knock for a few seconds until the dry oil filter fills with oil and it all gets circulating.

Thats why its a good practice to fill the filter first.

I let it run for about 10 seconds the first time and then about 15 seconds the second time.

First thing I would look at is the oil pressure. If you're at 40 psi or above on a cold engine, that's normal. Then I'd say check the filter, then under the valve covers.

Is it a random noise, or does it come in regular intervals, like one lifter or one cylinder is making the noise? I let my oil drain a long time once, as you did, and I had a lifter tick after I put the new oil in ! But the tick went away after a few hundred miles.

Took it into the local Chevy dealer. Somehow the oil pan got crushed by the steering arm and the crankshaft was hitting the oil pan. I could've sworn that I lifted the car by the frame. Oh well, my dad's flipping the $800 bill. Thanks anyways guys.

I guess my Dad shouldn't be mad then at the time I took out the fixture screws on the headlights of my Mustang and he had to fix it.

Yeah, that should lessen his anger...

Mutiny, does that price include a new center link and alignment?

I sure hope so, my alignment was perfect. That's great for a car with 140,000 miles on it. they checked it when I got new tires about a month ago.
