Rocker arm problem "Please Help"

My problem is with the #3 cylinder intake
valve rocker arm, It started tapping
about 3 months ago so I tighten it and it
was ok untill a couple weeks ago now I have to tighten it every week. Could it be the
stud going loose, or the roller lifter going
bad I need to fix it. Thanks for any help.

sounds like the locknut is bad. replace the nut and the stud if possible (if they're screw-in studs).

take a compression test on that cylinder if you find out it is not a stud backing out. if the compression is low then you lifter has not been rotating on the cam lobe causing the lifter to be wedged shaped and wearing out. you then have to reset the lifter, which is just masking a greater problem with the cam and lifter. been there done this! 454 bbc.

Check the overall hieght of the stud if they are stock press in studs, compare it to others..I would bet its coming out of the head.

I would also bet it is coming out of the head. When you add up the most likely posabilitys this one is definately on the top of thelist if it is not the nut.
