Quick Question
0-60 and 1/4 mile times?
Hello, im new to the board and am just wanting to find out some facts about my car. I just recently bought a completely stock 87 firebird formula with the 305 4barrel motor. It is automatic. I was just wondering what I could expect for 0-60 times, and 1/4 mile times. I tried running a search but couldnt find anything. Thanks for the help.

What options does the car have? a fully loaded model can weigh a couple hundred pounds more than a base model.
It also depends on how well the engine was maintained, It could either be like new or on its last legs for all we know

It has power windows, cloth seats, its pretty much as stock as it gets. The engine runs well and strong at 150k But yeah, im just looking for ballpark numbers on the 0-60 and 1/4 times, so any information would be helpfull.

it really all depends on the weather you have outside, and how well the car is running.
My car is a stock 305 TBI and it has about 5-10hp more than the LG4 and it can run a 15.6 1/4 mile and the 0-60 is about high 6s to early 7s...so in essence 6.7-7.2 seconds.
On summer days when its really hot it goes as slow as 8-9 seconds...the best time to run it though is during the winter on a good day.
but yes TPIs are much faster, but I like the TBI engines.

Im not talking about the TPI motors though.... I really want to hear some solid information on the 4barrel 305. I ran my friend today who drives a 94 cougar with the 4.6lt He absolutely killed me, and that cars 1/4 mile time is right around 16, and I lost by like 10 car lengths 1/4 mile. I dont know if something is wrong to my car, because a stock 2003 neon with the base 2.0lt 4 cylinder beat me 1/4 mile as well. So, aparently either something is wrong with my car, or it is just slow stock.

You definitely should've had that Neon as for Cougar....the 4.6 liter engines they used in Cougars was later upgraded to the Ford Mustang engines...but as far as I am concerned you should've atleast kept up with him.
Sounds to me like your suffering from a major loss of power, and thats not because your car sucks its porbably because its in need of a full tune up. When I got my car, nothing was done to it as far as engine, so I changed out the spark plugs, replaced the O2 sensor, and did quite a few other things. It wasn't running at its best either at the time, what was hindering the performance of the car was the EGR valve. The gas wasn't recirculating well enough to burn through the exhaust and it was causing my car to bog and spaz and do all sorts of funny things. As soon as I replaced that and I drove it out of the shop, I immediately felt the difference because my car was hauling ***.
I'd check up on the simple things, do an oil change, spark plugs, cap and wires, distributor all that good stuff and I guarantee your car will be running fine.
The LG4 is a dog of a motor, not to burst yoru bubble but its true. A buddy of mine in HS had a very similar car 1987 Z28 with the LG4 and the auto transmission. On an average day you're looking at 0-60 times in the low 8s if its in good tune. Quarter mile times will be in the upper 16's. My buddys car was MINT when he bought it and in damn good tune. He was running 16.20s to 16.40s with a K&N Filter and flow master muffler. I cant remember his trap speed but it was close to 10 mph slower than my IROC. Seems like his was 83 or so mph. That was pretty standard for those cars. The good news is, its a carbed motor and very easy to make faster.
Yeah, its kind of depressing when a neon is passing you, but those cougars can kick some ***. My friends cougar is stock and took out a 3.4 and 3.8 liter camaro, they have alot of pulling power at 30+ mph, especially for being a 3700+ pound car. I will have take my car in for a tune up, how much should I expect to pay?

depends if you know people....personally I did all the work and stuff myself on my car (my engine bay is very very tight and it was challenging but alot of fun)
If you are good with your hands and such you should definitely try a go at it. I have gotten ridiculous quotes from about 400 dollars, and JUST to change out my spark plugs it was 125 dollars!!! Outrageous I wasn't gonna do no such thing.
I went to my local auto store got myself some platinum tip spark plugs and some tools, out the door I paid 30 bucks, went home got cracking down on it and changed out the plugs within 2 hours or so.
Mind you that 30 bucks was for the spark plugs only, so a full engine tune up, including new wires, distributor caps, rotors, spark plugs....will probably run you close to 150-200 bucks...
Visit some shops in town though
