oil leak

Whenever I stop my car after a trip it always smells like burning oil. After long trips I can see smoke coming up from my engine. I'm pretty sure it's an oil leak but what are the possible parts that need replaced? My bet is that it's a leaky valve cover thats letting oil leak down onto the block, but i can't really see or tell because the whole engine is dirty and oily. What else could it be?

Thanks for the help.

If you have a leaky valve cover, then try replacing the gaskets. You might have a leaky intake as well, which would require a gasket too. If it's your rear main leaking, that would be a pain in the butt.

Could be....

Dist O-ring (very common)

intake seal

valve cover

oil sending unit

rear main seal

front crank seal

You need to clean the engine a little and see if you can be more specific in the area of the leak.

Seems like every time I clean my engine it leaks oil more! Just last week I gave it a good washing and suddenly I was pouring oil out of the front seal. Turned out yesterday when I was replacing the seal that the timing chain gear on the cam wat beyond toast and I could just lift that chain right off. The oil was pouring out of the 1 inch crack that the chain had worn into the cover! Guess that will teach me to wash my engine!

Seen that before on SBCs, pretty common with high mileage engines..
