starter woes

A friend of mine is having problems with starters on a 305. The snout that protects the gear that turns the flywheel keeps breaking. That's about all I know, figure I'd try to help him out. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Was it a new starter? Were shims included? If so, you may have to use those.

Is his support bracket from the back of the starter to the block there?

Check the clearance between the flywheel and starter teeth with a paperclip. If you cant get a paperclip between them you need a shim or 2 or whatever it takes to get the thing in there.
