cooling system mix... ?
cooling system mix... ?
Hey guys...
Sorry about the non-3rdgen post, but a friend of mine has a mid 90's W-body, and recently his 'low coolant' light came on. because he was in a rush, he ran up to his apartment, grabbed a glass of water, dumped it in the coolant overflow tank, and the light went off.
Now he's telling me that his car runs quite a bit hotter (usually over 220) then it used to. Could/would this be due to the improper mix of coolant/water?
Any thoughts would be helpful.

well, it depends, water has better heat transfer then antifreeze does, so it can actualy help the engine cool better. but antifreeze has a higher boiling pt. however, adding water wont cause the temp to just rise and hold. maybe hes just imaging it, or maybe the water was TOO cold. or maybe he doesn't have enough in it.
