quick question about oil dipstick placement...
for some reason whoever owned the car before me had pushed the oil dipstick tube back and zip tied it in place. this made checking the oil a pita because the dipstick would go back towards the hood when pulled out...
my question is, i just cut the zip tie and now the tube is easily pushed back and forth, is this normal? and how far up is it supposed to be?...i wish i had pics but i don't...

I used a block from a 71 Chevelle and had the same problem.
Go to your autoparts store and buy a new dipstick the same size.
Put in a couple of times and silicone it in...I changed my oil right after just incase.
Mine hasn't moved an inch since I did it.

They are just a pressed fit so if it has been taken out or moved around alot it will get pretty loose.
Only a couple bucks for a OEM replacement or a few bucks more for a fancy chrome one.

The only problem that will arise is if the dipstick tube pops out or moves up enough for it to start seeping oil.
You wont need to drain the oil when you replace it.
