what cam?

I'm not sure what kind of cam I should put in my lg4. originally the plan was to rebuild a 350 over this winter, but I'm gonna wait until next winter for that. I am going to put the vortec heads and rpm intake, along with the 750 performer carb on the 305. I don't want to put the rpm cam in the 305 because that's way too much cam for this motor. I'd like to just buy a cheap cam form paw, just to last this summer. the cam would have to have less then .460 lift (because of the stock vortec springs) and i'd like to see the motor pull strong to 6000rpm. what durantion/lift cam should I get? Thanks.

I'm no expert but...

I think the vortec heads are 64cc and the stock 305's are 58??(I think, please help if someone knows) So your compression would be weaker than it already is if LG4(8.2:1 if lg4, 9.5:1 on l69)
I have all the mods in my sig with the stock compression, I run on 87 octane and ran 14.7 with bad wires, bad fuel pump and no power after 4000. So I believe it is capable of low 14's maybe high 13's. The cam i use is a comp cam XE262, it is a great cam, but if you could find a cam that has close to the same figures for a low price i would reccomend it.
The cam sounds healthy with a little lope(for a 305) has good power after 1500, runs strong right up to 6000 and gets descent gas milage.

Yea, the stock heads are 58cc and the vortecs are 64cc. I think that the stock compression is 8.6, so I guess I'll lose a few tenths of a point. what are the specs on your cam? I imagine that I'll be able to run a bit more lift/duration, but I need a starting point. I was thinking of going slightly smaller than the rpm cam(234/244/.480"/.510"). I might just get a cam that has around .450" lift and hope for the best. I don't know what duration to go with, I was thinking something on the more conservative side. Help Please!!!

Just a note on the Vortechs"1 set" that I have cc'd have come out at 61cc.They need the combustion chamber modified around the exhaust valve and after polishing the chamber they were 64cc.But out of the box they are 61cc.
