Is my TPI suppose to make ticking noise?

When I open my hood I hear a clicking noise! Is it suppose to do that? The noise is coming from behind the alternator section. I'm only 16 I dont have enough money to go out and buy things to fix major problems. It's a 5.0 TPI IROC-Z 28 1987

It might just be a rocker arm that needs tightening. That's an easy fix at any decent shop.

But the first thing is to actually discover what it is making the noise. Good luck and don't worry about it too much. We were all 16 once and dreaded paying the repair bills on our cars

I know my dads crown vic (94) does that. It could be a exhaust leak, or like already stated, injectors or rocker arm...

My flux capacitor broke a few weeks ago and it made a sound like a wounded badger in heat. Turned out it was just a loose dielectric solenoid so I went to the local parts store and bought a 3/4 Gangly wrench and tightened it right up. I would bet it's either that or the batch fire injectors. Get yourself a mechanics stethoscope and start putting it where you think you hear the ticking. By the way, I hear Napa has the best prices on flux capacitors.

I cast my vote for it being normal injector tick. When the engine is cold (so you don't get a hand cooked) start the car and touch one of the injectors with you a finger. If the pulsing you feel is at the excact same time as the click you hear, then it is the injectors that you're hearing, closing as they pulse. This is completely normal for a batch fire car, because all of the injectors are closing at the same time.
