What would it take to run 13's w/ a 350 in an 83 T/A?

Im getting rid of the LG4 pretty soon. I have a 350 to build. It has 1.94 heads with 76cc chambers. Are these bad? The motor is a 1976 truck motor. What do you guys suggest as far as pistons, cam, intake, heads, and carb? I already have 3.73 gears w/ a good posi, so Im set there. I want to at least run consistent high 13's while tetaining my emissions equpiment and CC Q-Jet. THX

Best of 10.94@120.44mph

AS the owner of a 76 truck I can say the block, rods and crank are the only good parts. The heads suck, cam sucks, you get the idea. In 76 the good 350 engine only put out 160hp there was one that only 140hp
I'll post beck later with the mods that got my car into the 13's. Have to go on call.

My 85 camaro has a 355, flat
tops 4valve relief pistons "not really flat tops huh?", 58cc heads from an Lg4
mildly ported, stock valves, comp270H cam, comp springs, 1.6 RR, Wieand stealth holley
SA670, 2.5 Dual exhuast w32in glasspacks, MSD6al<--IMO junk, blaster 2 coil accel
distrubutor, good old 8$ fuel pump , turbo 400 1800 stall converter 3:42 posi. I could possibly break into the 12's If I used headders.

I know bot all of this is doable for your application, but alot of it inst nessasary. I run @ 4800ft above sea level and if your lower down than you could get away with half of my mods and get to your goal.
I would reccomend that you get your whole rotating assembly ballanced to start with then choose a cam that suites your needs and match with good tripple springs. Then get the proper stall converter to match your cam's powerband and rear gears.

Oh and say by to descent fuel milage

SSC, Im wondering, what is your compression ratio with the 305 heads? I have a set of L-69 heads and was thinking of trying them on my 355 which is real similar to yours. How does your motor do for power? Seems like it would be real torquey but run out of breath quick? TIA.

I would say that 305 heads are good because they will give you good compression, but they will need some work. Why dont you run Vortec's? They are cheap (probably cheaper than the machine work and valve job on your 305 heads) and flow well (again probably better than ported 305 heads). A carb setup ontop of these heads will definetly give you 13's when paired with a decent cam. Are you planning to run any spray later on? If not summit sells rebuild kits with flat top hyper. pistons real cheap. You could probably run 13's with the stock carb and keep better gas mileage.

If you dont have the extra $$ the 305 heads will work for ya. Keep doing what youre doing and talk to people with different setups. I wish I could tell you about my 13 second setup...maybe someday .

Good luck

It's estimated at 12:1. The camaro has 1.84 in valves and it runs great to 6200rpm. The heads were mildly ported on that. The truck has 1.94in on it and very ported heads it and Ive had it to 7k any higher and the valves float. I personally want to get 2 sets of 64cc heads and have them worked over so I can run more advance also more N2o. But these engines run very strong both top and bottem and besides a few sets of heads gaskets on the truck (too much N2o) no problems besides 91 max octaine. LOL.
