AIR Connections

My car only has 1 AIR hose running to the passenger side header. My driver side is capped off. I cannot find 2 outlets on the AIR pump so I'm wondering, is there only supposed to be 1 of those connections?

Here is the air setup on my 87 IROC.
The air outlet should go from the pump up to a diverter box located just above the passenger side valve cover. The diverter box has two outlets. One goes to the catalytic converter and the other outlet with go to the headers. The passenger side connects with a piece of rubber hose. The driver’s side has a metal pipe that runs around the back side of the engine and then connects to the header with another piece of rubber hose. Hope the picture makes sense. Some of the hoses are not hooked up in the pictures because it was taken when I did my header swap so I labeled the outlets.

OK, I don't have that directional box that sends all the air to the different parts. I have the one hose going directly from my air pump to the pass. side header. I WAS hoping to build a fully emissions compatable car even tho we don't have emission here. I may still try and find the box and hook it all up, but I think I need to know how much more pollution am I putting in the air with it not working properly. The EGR still works. I am planning on creating a true dual setup which presently includes 2 cats w/ AIR provisions.

Gee wiz Wally, after seeing how much more cluttered the engine bay is, I'm wondering if I can't hush my conscience enough to forgo this part of the project. Mother nature may still forgive me.

Thanks.....
Eric

Yea all that emissions crap really make things a PITA to work on, not to mention how cluttered things look. If you don't have emissions check where you live I wouldn't worry about it. Having a CAT & EGR I think helps more than AIR but I could be wrong.

THAT post was most helpful. Unfortunately, after I made a closer inspection, I saw the AIR to the cats was cut off uderneath the car and there's not much of anything left of the AIR system. I am considering removing the pump since there's really nothing it can do for me. I think that's a shame, but not enough to try and piece it back together. If we ever get smogged around here, I'll have some of the parts to put it back.

Thanks AZ
Eric

Where do you live that you don't have smog laws?

I live in Richmond, VA. Northern Virginia, the DC/Alexandria area has the sniffer test. Fortunately we have avoided that down here.
