shaking in 5th gear

I have an 85 T/A That has a rebuilt WC T-5 with about 9000 miles on it. Recently it has had a really bad shake to it when I put it into 5th gear. Not sure if it is the tranny or something else??

sounds more like the drive shaft got put in 180 degrees off and you are getting vibration from it

Well if that was the case I would have noticed it when I first bought the car, but i have been driving it since april and this problem just started recently.

Axle/Gears: I'm working on it,lol.
Are your tranny mounts still good. They usually don't replace those during a rebuild unless you request it.

I haven't looked at them but i'm willing to bet they are no more than 3 years old just about every part of this car was replaced it was originally an auto and was converted to a 5 speed in 2002 so I would think they would have had to put mounts for a 5 speed??

Another thing that could have happend....Since you say that Tranny has been worked on or whatever, aslong as they took it out, when they were finished and the time came to put it back in, they probabbly didn't aline the drive shaft on correctly. Look under your car and check out the drive shaft for any marks, they should have marked it then put it back in.

Is this something that would take some time before it would start to make this problem occur? Note the drive shaft is aluminum would this make a differance?

Well, it really doesn't matter what material its made from. Asfar as how it would take for this to happen, it would happen as soon is catching speed, because one that shaft turns so fast if it isn't alligned the way its suppose to its going to wabble. Which is why it wabbles in 5th, when your at high speeds.

This happens even if it is not at high speeds I could be shifting into 5th at 50-55 mph and it shakes the whole car, it can also be felt a little bit in 4th gear but not as pronounced, so it is not just a high speed issue.

Remember this just started occuring out of nowhere and up until recently drove excellent with no problems, shaking, vibrations in any gear. Maybe 5th is going south or maybe the rear end is causing this??
