305 problems

ive got a 89 rs with a tbi 305 sometimes it will just die while im driving then start right back up then run perfect. Now its starting to not want to rev up while in drive u can floor it and not go over 10mph put it neutral and it wont rev over 3500 rpm, but if u shut it off then crank it back up it runs perfect. Does anyone know whats wrong with it?

Was this car in the flooding from the storms earlier this year? I'd suspect an exhaust restriction, and if the car has been underwater, the converter would be my first suspect.

Weak ignition can also exhibit those kind of symptoms.

I believe most muffler shops (at least the chains) have a test gauge that can be connected in place of the oxygen sensor to test system backpressure. If the converter is clogged, muffler is collapsed internally, or pipes are consrtricted, the gauge will help analyze it.

I plan on getting a flowmaster catback installed next week so ill see if they check it. I got a quote on a converter from them and it was $150 I thought it was kinda high. How much should they charge to check it?
Thanks again
