1970 XF code 455
i have figured out that i have a 1970 455 casting date 9-9-69, casting code XF, casting code 64 on the heads. it is a complete numbers matching engine. anyone out there know if this engine is rare or worth the money put into it?
That looks like a Pontiac engine. You're gonna have a little trouble with the crossmember on that Playskool trike, for sure...

I'd say that's worth money to someone restoring an old pontiac. Depends on who you can find to pay for it. Ebay would be the best place to find a large amount of people, i'd recommend posting it there...

ebay is what got me curious about if this engine was anything special. there is a fellow asking 7500$ "but it now price" for a 71 455 YE casting code. this motor was in peices, half of which were still covered in crud. it had some machine work done to it. 4 sleeved cylinders. alot of money for something not anywhere close to being as nice as mine. just curious... thaqnks for your input fellas. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-...QQcmdZViewItem

"nobody wanted to pay near what it's worth", uh ok guy, so part it out, then people will pay more?
That guy isn't a genius, he's very optimistic.
I think you could check out some 2nd gen sites, and ask around there, get a feel for it. Maybe put a $6000 reserve, and start bidding low. If nobody buys it, you can always email the highest bidder and ask what he thinks is reasonable...?

Theres a big difference between a 1971 YE 455 HO and the 1970 455. The '71 was a full High Output performance engine with round port heads, cast iron headers, aluminum intake with larger runners, 068 Ram Air camshaft, and a 830 cfm carb. The 197 code heads alone bring about $1500-2000 these days.
The '70 455 is the only high compression 455 made but its more geared toward moving heavy cars around. It a torque monster engine like the Cadillac 472/500 engines. It was sold under 455 HO name in the GTO but its only that in a name. It has a cast iron intake, D-port heads and log style exhaust manifolds. Its comparable to the standard duty '71-76 455 engines had those been high compression.
Its still a good engine and would move a 3500lb 3rd-gen around very quickly. The '70 455 370HP engines are somewhat rare but being they aren't a true HO engine they don't command the big $$$ like '71-72 455 HO and '73-74 SD-455 engines. Your engine is probably worth around $2000. Maybe a little more to the right person.
Your engine is definitely something to brag about, as are all Pontiac engines. Its not a "just another Chebbie" engine!
