Fuel pump cover - gasket .. problems ?
Before putting the cover back on, and hammering it sideways back in place, one has to use a gasket. Seems to me the gasket the came with the pump was quite different than the factory one. The one from the factory was, well, like a regular gasket while the new one was more like a thick real thick o-ring.
Anyone ever had any problems with the big o-ring gaskets ?

Trying to track down a possible gas leak, which seems to have happened after switching pumps. So was wondering ya know

This new gasket a Felpro? They do have a sealing ring on some of the gaskets and they work well. Don't use RTV silicone sealer on it though, seems like it eats up some of their gaskets.

Nope, this gasket came with the fuel pump. It's the usual alignment problems ya know, pain in the behind to get the cover on and have the o-ring gasket not sliding around, plus the mere thickness of it caused some issues.
I feel I have somewhat of a gas leak somewhere, therefor trying to see if people ever had problems with these.
My problem could be though the filler neck, filler neck joints, fuel pump cover or even the fuel lines.

The big ring in the top of the tank? Mine was the same - the original seemed to be part metal and part rubber - the new replacement was simply rubber o-ring - but it went in just fine and I haven't had any leaks in 2 months now.
I just slammed it in there, and knocked the retainer ring back clockwise with a hammer and screwdriver. I did clean all the dirt and grime out of the grooves first, and put a touch of oil all around in there to make installing the retainer ring easier.

HMMMMMM well somewhere .. there's a leak .. I may have to pull the tank out again one of these days .. and inspect the joint (where the filler neck meets the tank)
Maybe I'll go to the junkyard and get an old used gas tank and then have a buddy of mine reinforce the welds at the neck

It could be any of the connections you disturbed in order to pull out the tank. Filler neck seems like a likely suspect. I'd say double-check what you can see/reach with the tank installed, and if those check out, go through the pain.

Especially since I got a 91, and I read that they had a recall for the 91 gas tanks, and as much as we had to fight to get it out, we may have created one or two more microscopic holes at the joint .. who knows .. if it is that way I'l lsee if I can reach in and put JB weld all around
and I'll double check the lines .. ah hell I'll start the pump and get underneat hthe car and look
Glad I quit smoking or I would be "testing" for leaks underneath the car another way

I happened across a nice doo dad that may help - it was on the clearance rack at my local Northern Tools store. It's a small (1 inch) diameter mirror on a bendy stick with a small penlight in the end. You could maybe find something like this, remove the gas door/neck plastic, and look down in there with such a doo dad.
* For those that aren't sure, "doo dad" and "bendy stick" are both technical terms - I swear!

No way I'm taking it back to that place. Even though they do owe me a damn wheel lock removal key.
Besides I'm sure the recall wouldn't work for me anymore, since I did cut the neck off, and installed a fuel line in between the joint and neck.
