I have the same problem in my 91 RS. It gradually got worse, and now does not work until you drive about 50 - 60 miles or so. Check for codes. I get a code 24 Vehicle Speed Sensor. Picked up a new one, and have yet to install it. I'd bet you thats the problem.

I have a similar problem- however, the lack of a code 24 and the fact Auto-Xray reads my vehicle speed have indicated to me the problem is not with the speed sensor.

However, the instrument cluster was tested by Luaderdale Speedometer in Ft.Lauderdale, FL. They charged $35 for a bench check plus shipping back to you. I explained that the speedo (BTW, speedo OR odometer do not work) does not start to work until you have driven 10-20 miles, and it seemed worse in cold temps.

So they placed the cluster in the freezer for an hour, then re tested it. It tested fine.

So my problem is somewhere between the sensor and cluster.
