Odd problem, rotor rubbing dist. cap

Never seen this before, get a funny noise when the engine is cold. Took a while to find the noise, but the rotor is rubbing against the inside of the distributor cap. This is the top plastic part of the rotor and leaves a circle on the underside of the cap. Replaced cap and rotor with NAPA's best, $38, but still have the noise. Seems to go away when it gets hot. Ever seen this before? Is there a fix?

wow never heard of that before, that's really odd. My advice would be take the 38 dollar napa cap back and order a 35.00 cap and rotor kit from msd off of summitracing.com.

re: rotor

ive seen this before, either the rotor isnt goin all the way down(maybe a burr on shaft, is it rusty by any chance? also, could be a badly worn shaft)be sure the button is down first ,be careful not to break rotor .(if you have the old rotor use that) hope this helps, jimmy

pull the distributor and find the cause. First place I'd check is the slop where the gear is mounted.
