Intermittent starter issue
Intermittently my starter will not turn, but the solenoid always clicks when trying.
The starter is less than a year old and when it does start it cranks healthy as new.
Security light is functional but does not light up.
The first time it happened a gave the starter a whack and then it started a short time later. The second time I did nothing but wait and it started.
The curious thing is that the solenoid always will activate but the starter won't turn and it is a very random problem.
Thoughts before I yank the starter?

If all of your wiring is snug, then it may be the contacts within the solenoid that send power to the motor causing the problem.

What Five7kid suggested could be the source of your problem. My '95 Jimmy is doing similar. The starter motor gear is not engaging the ring gear on the flywheel/flexplate.It could be a shim problem also - either starter is to close or to far out.
If your starter is less than a year old then it's probably still under warranty. If after you check all your connections you still have the problem I would pull the starter and take it back to where you bought it.They can test it and replace it then.
