i have an 89 Trans Am with the 305TBI engine - idles pretty good, not great when you have it in park but as soon as you start off to go it stutters and bogs which doesn't let the transmission shift right - if you stomp it you get total bog down - you can hold it half throttle and it will eventually get a little power to get up to about 55 but thats about it -- I seem to have pretty good exhaust flow coming from the tail pipe -- but what could this be? HELP!

 

Start with the basics. Do you have any SES codes? Check plug wires. Check timing. Check for spark on each cylinder. Get a fuel pressure guage ($10 at Advance), install in-line, and check fuel pressure. Replace fuel filter (another $10). Check firing order, and check for vacuum leaks.

A general tune up is the best place to start.

 

I pulled the SES codes and all i get is code 23 -- Mixture Control Solenoid - what is that and where is it?
