Wierd stalling/stuttering.
HELP!...
now that i got that out of the way...
My firebird started acting strange this morning. I got it going, running, and started off to work, like i do every other day. As i shift into 2nd gear, it runs for about 4 seconds, then starts sputtering, and dies. I pull over, start it up again, and go again...again, when i hit 2nd gear, it does the same thing, and dies. This time, it takes about 5 minutes before she'll start (even fire) again. I eventually got to work, basically had to run it in first gear the entire way there.
After work, i get outside and fire up the car. She idles fine, runs great in first gear. Again, second gear won't let it keep running. I was kind of hoping it was just flooding out, and that it'd be fixable, easily. Now, however, I was talking to a buddy of mine, and he states it could my my transmission itself. Either the forks, or it could be mising second and slipping into something like 5th or something.
Anyone got any other ideas/suggestions? Currently, its sitting at my buddies house, and I have his firebird. I plan on giving it a couple days to sit and see if it clears itself up. I want to avoid expensive fixes as it is, cause even though this is my daily driver, i can't afford to run her thru the shop at the moment...trying my HARDEST to get out of debt.
Any idea's/suggestions are greatly appreciated. and keep in mind when replying that i don't know every square inch of my car.

Well, it's a 5spd...so....how's 3rd gear? Try revving it out in 1st and doing a 1-3 skip shift, tell us what it does then.

Also, i talked to my girlfreinds brother. He thinks it could be as simple as my o2 sensor? or some other random sensor...
anything else, though I'll try the 1-3 skip if i can find a place to do it.

Thing is first gear the motor isnt under a heavy load, because it's geared like an SOB. Timing problems, weak *** ignition, etc. may not show up in first simple because of the gearing helping the motor along....but as you get to taller gear ratios the effects may become more pronounced.
A 1-3 shift shouldnt take you any real effort... I imagine you can get to 30-40 mph in 1st...just get up to there, pop the clutch, and jump over to 3rd. Sure you may lug the motor a little more than normal, but just let it out smooth and see how it reacts. I mean, you know your gears better than I do.....but hell in my little Probe, I could do a 1-5 skip shift (no joke) at 35 mph and not stall or buck the car...... Just a matter of driving it

Well...its fixed...was just the fuel pump and filter. Fuel pump was leaking fuel, spraying if the RPM's got high enough...fuel filter hasn't been changed since i got it.
lol nonetheless, all fixed. thanks for the assistance.
