The older cars actually were several hundred pounds lighter than the 91-92's. But that seems alittle optimistic for a firebird.

When you say optimistic for a firebird, do you mean compared to a camaro? Or compared to thirdgens?

early thirdgen's actually were simpler, therefor less weight. the older cars came stock with fiberglass hoods, the brackets on the serpentine cars weighed more, less electronics.

This is the e-mail I got back from Mecham.
"Curb weight is not the vehicles total weight. It is the number the factory uses as a base weight for the car. I'm not sure in what state that is,( no options, etc.) but it is the weight used to determine shipping around the country for the car. We didn't do anything to lower the weight of the cars in the base packages. Truth is with our added equipment, larger tires, wing, suspension braces, etc. the cars probably weighed 75 lbs. or so more than a standard car."

For reference, when I bought my 68 Camaro brand new, I looked
at the weight as listed in the GM literature. The Camaro listed at
2925 lbs (The Corvette at 2975 lbs). The actual weight was 3215
lbs, 1/4 tank of gas, no driver. The car was a v8, 4 speed, no a/c
and no power steering or power brakes. So 300 lbs sounds about right.
