starter hanging up

ok i bought an 87 camaro 2.8 car with a blown motor. i finaly got a longblock for it and got the car back together. When bumping the starter it stays engaged.. {keeps turning the motor even with key out of the car} The wiring is hooked up right. small purple to S and all the others on the Positive post. I played with a test light the ign switch works properly.. something just isnt right?? The starter is new.. im going to go exchange it because the solonoid might be dorked up. Is there anything else that can be causing this?? someyhing else ignition related?? I dont know what the other 3 wires go to that hook up to the positive post.

I unhooked the S wire and had someone turn key to start i just taped the wire to the solonoid and it willl keep turning without the wire touching.. Im trying to understand how the starter solonoid works, The s wire acts as a way to open the circuit to crank the motor and when i let off key should close the circuit.. How am i still keeping power when i remove its source?? waht do the 3 other wires do??

It sounds like the solenoid return spring has failed or the starter is binding internally or on engagement. Replace the "new" starter.
