HP estimate on my new ride?
I just recently traded my 82 T/A for an 89 IROC. My 82 was putting out around 170 at the crank (estimated, had stock exhaust, edelbrock 600 carb, torker II intake, open element filter on an LU5 motor with 3.73 gears)
This IROC feels 10 times more powerful with it's LO3 (mods are open air element, flowmaster 40 series crossflow, cat deleted, custom prom chip, maybe a mild cam). It's only got 2.73's in the rear, but still has way more punch than that '82 did. Milage on both motors were close too 119k on the 82 vs 94k on the 89. Just curious on what Im making for power.

I think a fairly reasonable number is between 170-180 horsepower with those upgrades and that mileage. It also depends on how it was driven and if the motor was taken care of

well, that just seems more confusing. The 82 had steeper rear gears and an open rear. the 89 has posi with highway gears. The 89 will break the tires loose with ease, but the 82 could barely get the single tire spinning for more than 15 feet. I got at least 30 feet with both tires on the IROC last week. Perhaps I am being thrown off by low end torque vs high end HP? I know that setup on the 82 was more for high end power.
My friend had an example of this happen too. He used to go 0-60 in spot in his SHO and would get to 60 at this one particular sign everytime. Then he got an Integra. he's getting to 60mph 30 feet before the sign, but swears the SHO "felt" faster. I explained it was the low end grunt of the v8 pulling you back in the seat, but the 4cyl had enough in the high end with lower car weight that is was ultimatly faster.
I need to get the casting number off the block too. The last owner told me she thinks it MIGHT have 350 swapped into it. She had 15 different 3rd gens and this was the fastest "305" she owned.

Ok after some more research, I found the LO3 put out 170 stock. With the mods done, I should be making more than stock, at least I would hope so. Im guessing around 190.

I'd more than love to, but the closest dyno is about 2 1/2-3 hours away, I think. I think my best 2 alternatives will be run it at the track and do out the math (which is 1 1/2 hours away) or the dreaded G-tech meter, which I dont own.
The track is a little far fetched for me since they only run street cars on Wednesday nights and Im night blind, so someone else would need to do all the driving there and back and possibly the run too.
I was just looking for a rough estimate since like I said, it feel way faster than my old car. Im hoping after I get the casting number, I get to find a 350 swap under there instead of a 305

You could run it at the track to get a rough estimate based on your trap speed. Those G-techs are not very accurate. Id say your just a tad under 200 at the crank though. Maybe 195 give or take. Thats given its in great tune.
