Just Found A Cool, New Use For SeaFoam

Found an exhaust gasket leak with the stuff. I warmed up the car to 220*, ran ~3/4 can through the brake booster line. Slowly poured the rest through the throttle body until the engine died. Let sit for 30 minutes. Came out and noticed white smoke from the engine. You could see it all around the cyl #2 exhaust port gasket. Now I know why my clothes smell like exhaust whenever I drive.

Could you not hear it prior to this. FIX IT ASAP, if your clothes smell like exhaust, the fumes are getting into the car with you. Carbon Monoxide can be DEADLY! I know someone that was almost poisoned to death in a 68 VW Beetle.

Very much agreed. I know CO is odorless so I don't know when it's in there with me -- I just couldn't find the leak. It's not audible in the slightest sense which is what was confusing me. As long as I keep the windows up, my clothes don't smell of exhaust. It's worst (as expected) with the windows down and driving in city traffic.

And rx7speed, never heard that one. Perhaps I should pay more attention.

with how many post go through this place it woudln't be a shock. hell I miss a lot.
on the rx7's though it was a common fix for a lot of people to put ATF and let it sit in the motor overnight to help clean the carbon. sad thing is as you said with sea foam it finds every leak. some you know you had some you didn't know. some you couldn't even hear but it knows they are there. with the ATF you will know you have exhuast leaks for the first 5 min after that you will think the car caught fire, then you will soon forget that you had a car and instead wonder why there is a huge white cloud sitting in front of you for the next 30 min or so.

I have a picture on one of my computers, maybe my old laptop, I will have to dig it out and see. But I seafoamed my old 3.4 GMC Jimmy in the Autozone parking lot that I bought the stuff at. Made a huge grey cloud of smoke.

When I started the engine to clear out all the old SeaFoam, that exhaust leak spewed white clouds of smoke and the exhaust pipe was much, much worse. I slowly revved up to 3000RPM and helt it for ~15 seconds. The noise got people's attention and everyone around looked really nervous when they saw the cloud coming from my car. hehehe...

I have done the water trick every 10,000 miles or so, but I wanted to try something else since I'd never used it before. It was $5 and the next time I'll be pulling the heads so it is probably a one-time deal anyway. A good side effect is finding my exhaust leak. I wasn't even looking for it because there were other more serious issues at hand. It goes on the list to be worked out when I have the resources to do so.
