shell rotella is good on new engine, el cheapo oil isn't for break in oil. since you used cheap stuff for the most imporntant part of the engines life why worry about it now?

i actually think it was the rotilla oil but i get a pretty good discount on stuff we have at work. from what ive always been told from people around here that have built race motors and motors for just about anything is to use a lil cheaper oil for first 500 and then after that use whatever oil you want from then on out. personaly i havent cared for castrol to much ive used it before in past vehicle

it seems the race engine builders in your area are dumbasses or they just don't know better, or maybe they just like to lie to you.

Maybe your engine builders just meant to use a standard oil. No synthetics, etc. The synthetics may stop it from breaking in properly. Many engine builders will recommend a break in oil and then oil to use after that - especially for hi perf motors. If it's a real race motor, then I would ask your engine builder what they use. They must have or sponsor a local race team or 2. That way, if it breaks in 90 days they don't complain about the oil you were using

You seem just a bit mis-informed about oil, I've done tons of reading on oil and their qualities, maybe you should do a search on motor oil. My reccomendation is valvoline, a high quality oil(based on fact not opinion), for a very reasonable price. Synthetics are almost always helpful for an engine it's just if youre application needs it. Synthetic oil will help very minimally on an engine with a bad rod knock, but it will certainly prevent it due to it's higher quality control. The best oil out their is actually AMSOIL(also based on fact), but it also depends is it worth the money for your application.
