why do lifters need to rotate?

I'm just a little curious here. saw a few post about that and then remembered on my car theugh there isn't any lifters but instead the crocker rides directly on the cam and all it has is a little puck that is on the tip of the rocker. not a roller or anything like that but it seems to work.
whats the difference

lifters need to rotate to keep from wearing the cam and to keep the cam from wearing a groove into the bottom of the lifter

ok fine then I just bought an 82 camaro and I'm swapping in a SOHC motor that has flat rocker arms not roller style
so now I'm asking why do I need the lifters to rotated but the rocker amr doesn't have anything to rotate yet last just fine
