Hard turning 355 NEED HELP ASAP

ok read all of this and then try to help me..

i recently pulled the stock 305 and my friend rebuilt a 355 i have 58cc heads on it he put new rings in it, valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets, timing chain gasket. and you get the picture

well we dropped it in the maro...put the starter on bolted it up..
weve had it started several times.. but its locked up a couple staters and the new one i got the motor snapped the nose on it...i replaced with an old nose and that seemed to toughen the starter... well its turns reall good but the starter solenoid will get stuck i n the flywheel at certain points...and sometimes the engine will even rotate the opposite direction to get the solenoid out.. so i shimmed it and it grinds going in and everything so we decided its not shimming....i decided to take the plugs out and turn it...the engine turns great like this but once the plugs are in the problems start.... ideas...well i think it could be the flywheel cause it is getting stuck in certain spots.. we are going to pull the motor out and try new flywheel

i asked the mechanic at my work if he new he said i have a bad motor ..i even checked the compression with my SNAP-ON compression tester...195 psi (thats alot) yes i did it right

could it be a bad bearing a bad motor or what...
man i need help

58cc will give you about 11/1 static compression, what kind of cam do you have?if it's a stump puller, you could have some really high compression!
stilll,it sounds like you hsve some timing issues.

souds like you need a torque reduction (big block)starter.

Yeah, with 58cc heads you are running a faily high compression ratio even with the stock dished pistons. You may want to look into a thicker head gasket to reduce your compression ratio, along with a high torque starter.

check your piston to vavle clearance. also you may need to shim your starter. BTW your compression will be close to 11:1, that happened on a motor I had that detonatied it's self to death.
DISCLAIMER: I didn't put it together but that is another story!

Rotate it by hand to check that it rolls over ok.

hey, i may have the answer for you. i JUST finnished pretty much the same prodject your doing, and i have somewhat the same probblem. i built up a 350, new rings, new bearings, gaskets, heads (world power S/R Torquer heads), intake, exhaust etc. when i first started trying to turn it over, i was haveing the same problem (its gets REALY tight and will barely turn), the funny thing was that it sometimes turns fine. i thought at first it was cause the new bearing had very little oil in them, so i just had to prime the pump, get it started and and after running a bit it should be fine. but that didnt fix it. basicaly, your bearings are probably fine, your motor is probably fine, its just that that started motor is not meant to turn an 350 with those heads on it. the compresion is just to high (and by the sounds of it you kind of jerry riged it, i wouldnt recoment that). if i were you id go out and buy a new higher torque starter (like a couple of guys have already said). that will be abel to to turn that thing over NO problem. and you may be right, you may need a new flywheel. but start at the easier things to fix, and then work your way to the more complex things like changeing the flywheel. i hope this helps (also, try charging your battery good luck!

Change the timing to relieve some of the compression, and use a boost battery to crank until it starts on it's own, but best to use the proper starter.

You have a bent connecting rod. See your old post below.
